Reunion in Providence; Glazed Concrete Floors in Foxboro

How was your Memorial Day? As I mentioned probably a dozen times recently (I was excited), S and I spent the past four days in Providence at our five year college reunion. It is always fun to return to the place where we met. The Main Green at Brown was decked out with hundreds of paper lanterns for the Campus Dance (in our minds, the most important of all the university-sponsored activities), but we were too busy having fun to take pictures. These are the only two photos we took:

Former Grad Center roommates Willa, Veronica and I. Vero asked, "Are you going to blog about this?" Yes!

And here, S and I are looking a little worn out from our travels and a long night of catching up with old friends. Also I'm going to need a haircut at some point soon. Must write myself a note...

Instead of getting a hotel in town, we stayed with friends in Foxboro, MA, just a mile or so from Gillette Stadium where the New England Patriots play. Surrounding the Stadium is a fun shopping/dining complex called Patriot Place, where they have a Life is Good store with the most beautiful glazed concrete floor. This was obviously a photographic priority.

This coppery finish is what we want to do on our kitchen floor. Isn't it great? While the plan is not set in stone, the hope is that we'll finish building the concrete forms next weekend and pour the foundation the weekend after... sooner if possible. (Remember, half of the kitchen is not sitting on any foundation.) Then comes plumbing ground work, then we pour and glaze the actual floor. Then comes framing, ducts, electric and all the rest of the fun.

In the meantime, we're happy to be back home after a crazy month of traveling and weddings. Now it's time to get serious on this house again!

How was your Memorial Day?

Floor will look amazing in new kitchen. Eager to see the kitchen as it begins to unfold.
